Prior to launching myNEXT, Dirk led Burrill & Company’s venture capital investments in digital health startups. In this capacity, Dirk also served on the Board of Directors of AliveCor and BetterDoctor. Throughout his career, he has been driving technology convergence through innovative use of computer technologies and online, mobile, and interactive media in medicine, based on the premise that these technologies are providing a platform to fundamentally improve access to and quality of healthcare worldwide.
Dirk has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare, life sciences, and high-tech industries. He has a combined medical, computer science, and data science background. He holds an M.D. from Duesseldorf University Medical School and trained in Neurology at the University of Cologne Medical Center.
Dirk worked as a consultant for McKinsey & Company advising clients across a broad spectrum of industries in the U.S., Europe, and Asia-Pacific. He gained operational experience as Vice President Molecular Diagnostics at Affymetrix and as Vice President Marketing and Corporate Development at XDx, building businesses in molecular diagnostics and personalized medicine.
Liang Hoe is currently Head of Strategic Partnerships at R65 Labs, an early stage digital health startup based in Durham, North Carolina. Prior to joining R65, Liang was a senior developer relations manager at Apple, heading developer relationship activities in the healthcare and science space on the iPhone and Mac platforms. In addition, he is advising a number of early stage startups in the mobile health space. He is interested in the disruption that consumer based technology is causing in the digital health space, and how to apply these lessons in order to deliver fundamentally better health outcomes.View details
Prior to Apple, he was a Program Manager in Primary Care Diagnostics for Beckman-Coulter, where he worked on regulatory strategy for a number of products. He also had product development and project management positions at Aclara Biosciences and Applied Biosystems (now Life Technologies), where he successfully commercialized a number of hardware and research products.
Liang has over 20 years of experience in healthcare, life sciences and mobile technology. He holds an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship from Santa Clara University, and began life as a research biologist - which is something he misses every once in a while.
